F.A.Q.

Questions about the site’s changes:
Q: Why change the site?
A: Unfortunately we had come to the point in the storyline where it began to
stagnate. Combine this along with the many layers of work placed on the staff
the Admins felt a change was due to simplify things for all involved and give
more opportunities in both leadership and role-playing to everyone at the site.
Q: How will my characters be affected?
A: All pre-change characters at Broken World will need to be redone to fit the
current site timeline and setting.
Q: Can I keep my old characters and carry them over?
A: Old character concepts can be fit into the new system as long as the rules
and such are followed. However their present history and accumulation will be
discarded in order to fit with the new timeline.
Q: Will we still be able to play as channelers?
A: Of course, the new system allows for very versatile character creation as
well as more freedom as to where you will play. The bio creation post has all
the necessary information about what you can do and anyone is more then welcome
to ask if something they have in mind is doable in the RP.
Q. How will the OP scoring system and weapons score be affected by the changes?
A: The OP scores and Weapon systems have been completely revamped into Tiers, to
get a full explanation of these things visit the General Information forum and
look up each one under it's title there.
Q. What's new in the sites history?
A: The most obvious change is the new power that grips the land, the fact that
the forces of 'good' have lost and an evil has taken it's place.
Q. Who are the admins?
A: The Admins consist of Darna, Aureille, Jalestra and Darksbane, each who will
work together to oversee and nurture this new storyline.
Q. What kind of RP opportunities can I expect?
A: There are countless opportunities for different types of role-play in
different settings. In Broken World now you are not limited to joining the white
tower or the black tower if you discover the ability to channel. You can set up
shop in any region as long as you remember that Chaos is ever present and
watchful. We've taken steps to help ensure a more realistic setting as well. If
you have your character go off and moon a trolloc, something is going to happen.
We plan to take each biography and rp request on it's own, so people can have a
wider range of things to do instead of a cookie cutter character, setting and
RP.
Q. What rules are there when creating a new bio?
A: Most of the old rules apply, with a few new twists that will allow for better
customization. All this can be found on the General Information board as well as
the biography board "Read before Posting a Biography".
Q.Is there still going to be both a OOC and IC divisions?
A: Brokenworld begins as an OOC, you are here because you enjoy the Wheel of
Time series. Role-play is a perk of the site and what most come to do. As for
divisions, they no longer exist, both IC and OOCly. Instead there are groups
made by individuals in the RP sense while the OOC sense remains as an overall
community.
Q.Will the site design change? Color, etc
A: At first we had no desire to change the site, however, since then we have
adopted new forums in a new home and given the style choices to the users. In
the future we hope to create a style similiar to our old ones for those who miss
it's looks.
Q.What will happen to the divisions? Neutrals, chaos, Black tower.
A: Divisions as you know them will disband. Taking their place will be
individual groups with their own goals, mixture of people and talents. This will
cut down the former workload on the individual and place it firmly in the hands
of those who want to progress.
Q: Where did the Gauntlet board go/ how do I train my character for advancement?
A: There currently is not a board where you can train your character outside of
the timeline. Instead, advancement takes into account participation in actual RP
threads.
Questions about the state of the world
Q. What's happened to the nations?
A: Every Nation, with the exception of Shara, participated in the last battle.
Thus, when the Dark One won, the nations were naturally placed under his rule,
or more appropriately the rule of the remaining Chosen. There are a total of 3
Chosen left in this new age, each governing how they see fit in the West, East
and Shara itself. Some of the major cities still stand, though they are in bad
repair due to the war and still contain citizens who are trying to cope with the
new regime.
Q: What cities have been destroyed and which are still around?
A: Most cities have been utterly destroyed. The exceptions are Tear, Tanchico,
Jehanna in Ghealdan and Amador. Caemlyn is partially standing, the outer city
and palace destroyed.
Q: What's happened to the Aiel?
A: As the prophecy in the books suggested, only a remnant of a remnant remains.
The Aiel were the worst hit out of any region, largely due to their beliefs and
whatnot. There are still Aiel, but at this point in time in the story those that
remain are scattered across the waste as well as in the West, trying to survive
like everyone else around them.
Q: Are the wolfkin still around?
A: Of course. As are Ogier, Steddings and white fluffy clouds!
Q: What happened to the Seafolk/ Seachan?
A: Their lands (the Seafolk Islands and the Seachan continent) have been scoured
and are void of people.
Q: What about nobles, generals, and such? Where are they?
A: They are dead. The Chosen are not stupid. They meticulously killed anyone
they considered a threat and that included all the major nobles and generals.
Q: What about the abandoned steadings? Those are safe places, right?
A: Not really, no. The Chosen have shadowspawn guarding the parameters of all
steadings, abandoned or not. So while it may be safe inside the steading, it is
near impossible to get inside them. Also remember that the abandoned steadings
were abandoned for a reason: little/no water supply, no trees to tend, and so
forth. An abandoned steading might not be the best place to camp out, especially
when you take into account the neighbors (shadowspawn with their cook pots and
such).
Q: What is the overall state of the world?
A: The bottom line is what is not under the control of the Chosen (the Western
lands, the Waste, and Shara) has been destroyed to quell any
resistance/uprising. In the lands controlled by the Chosen life is not good.
There are slavers, thieves, shadowspawn, and other bad guys running rampant. The
take home message: Life sucks.
Questions about character generation/
advancement
Q: Can my character be a darkfriend?
A: No. Currently we are not allowing members to have Chaos characters. But, as
another option, you can have a character that is evil like a slaver, bounty
hunter, general bad guy out to ruin other peoples lives, you name it. They just
can’t have professed their love for the Dark One, or kissed any Chosen’s
feet.
Q: Can my character be a noble?
A: Your character cannot be a queen or king or any major noble, as they were all
killed by the Chosen. Minor nobles, yes, but take into account that their life
would not be luxurious.
Q: Can I have mixed characters like an Aiel-wolfkin or a Warrior-Aes Sedai?
A: No, this is to help prevent god-modeling or the creation of super hero
characters. If you want to have an awesomely powerful character, you can, you
just have to work for it. (See tier questions below).
Q: What is the difference between tiers and levels?
A: There is no difference, these terms are interchangeable. A Tier is nothing
more than the level of expertise a character has in a given skill/trade.
Q: How do I advance to the next Tier?
A: By participating in RP’s with your character. Every month each character
will earn 0-1 points depending on how active the character was during that
month. These points then go towards advancing the character. To advance, for
example, from Swordplay Tier 1 to Swordplay Tier 2 costs one point. Tiers 1-4
require 1 point for advancement, 5-8 need 2, and 9-12 need 3.
Q: Are there restrictions on how I use my points?
A: Yes. To be more realistic, your character can only advance to the sixth tier,
in any skill, on his/her own. In order to move on to higher Tiers (7 and above),
your character must be taught, within the RPG, by someone with a higher skill
level than your character. For example: You have earned 2 points for your
character Jim-Bob. Jim-Bob currently has Archery Tier 6. To go on to Tier 7 will
cost 2 points AND require role-playing with a character who has Tier 7 or more
in Archery.
Q: What if no one I am role-playing with has a higher Tier level than me in a
skill I want to advance in?
A: Talk to an Admin. There are characters within the RPG whose sole purpose for
existing is to be able to teach others. Your character would then have to seek
out this person, or run into them accidentally, and then put in some serious
grunt-work hours to advance. This may seem like a lot of work, but think about
real life, there is only so far you can go on your own, no matter how much
natural talent you have. Then you must seek out someone wiser/stronger/more
advanced and learn from them.
Q: Any other restrictions I should know about?
A: Yes. Male channelers cannot advance beyond Tier 4 in any weapon. Female
channelers cannot advance beyond Tier 2 in any weapon.
Q: How do the OP Tiers work?
A: The OP tier system takes two things into account: level of skill and then
knowledge. Each OP Tier costs the same amount as a regular Tier (1 point for
1-4, 2 points 5-8, 3 points 9-12). Then, each Tier has a list of weaves
associated with it. Each weave costs and additional point. Furthermore, weaves
not approved in your character’s bio must be learned through RP’ing with a
channeler who already knows the weave, and during that RPG the channeler must
teach your character the weave before you can add it to your character’s
knowledge base.
Q: Does my channeler have to learn all the weaves in a given Tier to advance?
A: No, but your character must learn at least half of the weaves in a given Tier
before advancing to the next level.
Q: Can my character learn new weaves on his/her own through experimentation?
A: No, your character can only learn new weaves from someone who already knows
how to do the weave. Remember, experimenting with the OP is a good way to find
yourself stilled, gentled, or dead. |
